The Fashionable Housewife is a One Stop Shop for Modern Homemakers

When you think "fashionista", what first comes to mind? Is it a young woman keeping up with all the newest trends? An urban socialite with access to high fashion style? Someone who forsakes the conventional and makes their own clothes? The truth is that modern fashionistas take many forms, and there is no one type of person who can be one. That's why today we're featuring the inspirational Sarah-Jean Ballard, proud housewife, mother and guru of all things fashion and lifestyle!

Take a look at Ballard's website, The Fashionable Housewife. In addition to covering fashion and beauty, she regularly posts on family and home life, health, marriage, homeschooling, homesteading and more. This is a modern-day housewife who does it all from her New Hampshire homestead!

Ballard's style has a lot of fluidity, ranging from deep solid colors to brightly colored prints, simple accessories to bold statement pieces. During pregnancy, she sticks to flowing fabrics, but with small elaborate touches that make these outfits just as appealing as her regular ones. Head on over to her instagram page (@fashionablewife) to see for yourself, but we'll give you a preview with the looks we've selected here.

Flowy White Tunic with Brown-Gray Sweater, Black Leggings and Sandals

Ballard may be well into her third trimester of pregnancy while wearing this outfit, but that's part of what makes it so great. The flowing white tunic has a lace up front with long tassles and billowing sleeves. It would be striking on its own, but she makes it even more so by adding a flowing brown-grey open front sweater on top. Notice how the two pieces go so well together that they appear to be attached.

On bottom, Ballard is wearing simple black leggings and sandals, making for a comfortable yet still stylish appearance. She finishes the whole look off with a statement necklace, bracelets, rings, and a pair of the trendiest sunglasses. Notice, however, that none of the jewelry pieces are overly flashy or large, creating more of a boho look instead of one that looks too accessorized.

We love her long flowing hair because it goes well with the overall vibe of this outfit, but we also feel that a messy updo or a loose fishtail braid would work as well. This look can also easily be adjusted for non-pregnancy attire (just go with slightly more fitted pieces that are still flowy and long).

Long Print Sweater with Light Wash Skinny Jeans and Wedged White Booties

We love that oversized print sweater, but it's those wedged white lace up booties that are really drawing the attention here. Ballard made a great choice here in opting for fairly simple light wash skinny jeans here, allowing both the sweater and the booties to make this outfit into a statement. She finishes this simple yet exciting look off with a pair of black sunglasses

You can easily adapt this look for a wide variety of occasions. Dress it up more with a darker skinny jean wash and add some jewelry. As for shirts, we suggest going with a simple black tee here in order to not distract from the shoes or the sweater. A wide variety of hairstyles would also work very well with this look, but we think we'd like to see it tried with a half-up, half-down 'do.
