Pull Out Your Shades for Spring 2019 with These New Eyewear Trends

Although we are still seeing quite a few dreary, chilly days, before you know it the sun will be out, the weather will turn warm, and you’ll need to pull out your shades to protect your eyes. Of course, if you want to stay on-trend, you’ll want to catch up on the hottest eyewear trends for Spring/Summer 2019.

We have put together some of the different styles, shapes, and colors seen on the runways so you can update your shades with a few new picks from the many spring 2019 designs.

What’s Out for Spring 2019

Before jumping into all the newest eyewear trends, it’s important to be aware of what looks are out in sunglasses this year. Through the years, aviator sunglasses have been extremely popular for both men and women and seen on celebrities like Victoria Beckham, Kim Kardashian, and Brad Pitt. Even Old Hollywood stars like Audrey Hepburn loved this style. This year, aviators were missing from the spring runways.

They’re a classic style, so feel free to rock them if you love them or let them sit out a season as you try one of the newest eyewear designs.

Sunglasses in Sporty Styles

Many of spring’s hottest trends are falling on the sporty side like the popular surf and skateboard trends picked up by many top designers, and sunglasses are no exception. Sunglasses in sporty styles like mountain climbing sunglasses or flat top sunglasses all were popular on the runways. While some sporty styles come shield or flat top accents, other sporty frames had feminine accents like scarf temples designed to match your outfit.

Shield Sunglasses

Shield sunglasses, especially a sporty take on these shades, were especially hot on the spring 2019 runways. What makes these pieces stand out? They’re not bi-framed like many sunglasses – instead, they’re made of one large piece of material that covers the bridge of your nose and the eyes. Popular among snowboarders and surfers who need more serious eye protection, these shades showed up on the runways of Stella McCartney, Tom Ford, Miu Miu, Gucci, and Rick Owens.

Patterned Sunglasses Frames

According to Who What Wear, patterned sunglasses frames are big this spring, and it’s no surprise since patterns are one of our favorite things about spring fashion. Black and white patterns, animal prints, polka dot prints, and even scribble patterns were all popular on the spring runways.

Choose patterned frames that match your outfit or keep your outfit basic and take it up a notch with a pair of patterned sunglasses.

Sunglasses Go Big on Bling

While embellishments and jewels are pretty common on high-end sunglasses, for spring 2019 designers have taken bling to the extreme. Shades were actually ‘dripping’ with bling this year, with designers like Dolce & Gabbana, Givenchy, and Prada getting on board with this fun trend. Jeweled chains, frames encrusted with pearls and jewels, and gold frames formed into logos are all popular choices to add to your collection if you want to bling out your shades this spring.

Cat Eye Sunglasses Stay On-Trend

Although they’re not new (they’re actually rooted in ‘50s and ‘60s fashion), cat eye sunglasses are on-trend again for spring 2019. These flattering, feminine shades add a touch of sophistication and glamour to any spring look. This is why they’re so popular among celebrities like Miranda Kerr, Gwen Stefani, and Rihanna

Choose cat eye shades in bold colors and pair them up with outfits that feature your curves (think a curve-hugging dress) for a sexy look.
