There are new brands coming to the jewelry industry 'all the time'. Most are unique in some way. Many have a special look. Some catch our eye. But very, very, very few hit the scene with a game-changing force of nature - something truly special.
They have undeniable energy, beauty and emotion. A breath of fresh air in a sometimes stuffy space. It is on these rare occasions we like to take a closer look. Take the time to tell a story. Bijolie is one of those special brands. And the story of its founder, Olia, is just as special.
Olia came to New York from Russia in 2008. She immediately fell in love with the city. Not just the people. Not just the culture. Everything. The energy. The architecture. The diversity. She knew right away she would make it her permanent home. As she spent more time there, New York continued to inspire her. Driving her to express her creativity, emotion and warmth. It was like New York knew Olia had something special to share with the city, and the world.
Many in fashion and jewelry have muses. Some we know well. Like Karl Lagerfeld inspired by Claudia Schiffer and Luna Bijl. Others less so, but equally important, like Maison Cartier and Jeanne Toussaint. The energy of the other person sparking creativity and emotion. With Olia, it is like NYC itself is her muse. A constant source of energy and sometimes spontaneous source of inspiration. In her own words, Olia says
"I’m not sure I fully understand all the wonderful alchemy that goes on here to stimulate and inspire me the way it does. All I know is that I can walk outside for even just 30 minutes, take in the architecture and impressive breadth of style and fashion of the people I pass on the street, and I find myself running back to my apartment full of fresh new ideas for my jewelry!"
And that jewelry is truly spectacular. One glance at bijolie.com and you feel the energy of the pieces. They have a polarity of being which is seemingly impossible to create. They are ethereal, yet strong. Confident, yet vulnerable. They give a sense of grace, elegance, and spontaneity all at the same time. The rings, necklaces and earrings can all be worn alone. Or paired in head-turning looks that Olia shows off herself.
All of Olia’s pieces are stunning. We have to admit we do have a favorite - the opal rings. They are truly stunning. This piece that elevates any look. The opal radiates and is surrounded by sparkles of diamonds. A light piece airy. Turns out, we are not alone. As Olia explained, “It’s still very early days for Bijolie, but the initial response has been phenomenal! The opal rings seem to be the thing that gets people most excited about, and I can’t blame them because, I mean, who doesn’t love opals?? :)”
Maybe more important than how Olia’s pieces look is how they make the people who wear them feel. We are not talking about the good feeling you get from wearing only recycled gold (never mined). And having all gems ethically sourced. Bijolie guarantees this with all of their jewelry. We are talking about the confidence and vitality that Bijolie pieces give to those who wear them.
This is no accident. As Olia says, “I think sometimes we forget how very special and unique we all are. I’ve certainly had my own days where I was down on myself and filled with self-doubt. So I’d like my jewelry to help be that little reminder of who we truly are, reflecting the fact that there is no one else like us in the world! I guess you could say this is really the essence of Bijolie’s philosophy - that every girl who wears my jewelry feels free to imagine herself however she desires, and that she can completely trust both her vision of herself and the world around her. Through Bijolie I want to continue to bring happiness to women, and as long as I feel that’s happening I will keep creating!”
And we are looking forward to what Olia will create next. The beauty of Bijolie is that every piece is special. Each one is eye-catching. Each one radiates its own energy and emotion. Olia’s very personal creative process ensures that true feeling is somehow magically captured in each piece of precious metal and hand-cut gem. As Olia explains,
“creating jewelry is a very personal experience or me, usually fueled by specific emotions I’m feeling in that particular moment. Sometimes a very concrete design image will just magically appear in my mind and I’ll race to quickly try and sketch it out before it dissipates. But just as often, I’ll be overcome with a very intense “feeling” and I’ll try to sketch something in the spirit of that mood I’m in. This is why every piece I create is really just unique and very special to me.”
Launching any brand any time takes courage. And recently that is more true than ever. When asked about launching Bijolie now and where she sees the brand in the next 5 years, Olia told us she always focuses on the positive. She views the pandemic as a “reminder of the importance of being more attentive, selective, caring and loving to all the people we gracefully cohabit and share this planet with.” She continues, “while obviously nervous about launching my first business during a period of world-wide turmoil, Bijolie and I are very excited for these potentially positive changes and are ready to become one of THE leading jewelry brands in the country in the next 5 years!”
We agree. Focus on the positive. Look forward to the future. And for Bijolie, the future looks bright. As far as Bijolie becoming a leading jewelry brand in the next five years. It might happen sooner than that. The passion, authenticity and emotion that Olia embodies is a recipe for success. And the beauty of the pieces speak for themselves.
This is the story of Olia and Bijolie. A story that might be much more well known in New York, and around the world, very soon.
