A Pocketful of Polka Dots Embraces Fashion Over 40

There's no age limit when it comes to having great style. That's why today we're featuring one of our new favorite fashion blogs, A Pocketful of Polka Dots! Run by 48-year-old Jennie, this one's filled with great style tips and fashion inspiration for women over 40.

Jennie's the first to admit that she wasn't always a fashionista. She spent most of her early years "in boring clothes" but reinvented herself upon reaching middle age. She's now a self-confessed "shoeaholic", avid photographer and inventive stylist with an eye for stunning street wear, bold prints and long flowing designs. Jennie is all about DIY fashion, and most of her outfits are not pre-determined ensembles but rather consist of an assortment of pieces that came from different places. Take a look at Jennie's instagram (@apocketfulofpolkadots) for the full spectrum of her inspiring looks. In the meantime, we've pulled a few of her best to give you a preview.

Flared Jeans with Long Blue Sweater, White Tank and Gold Necklace

Not only are we loving Jennie's pink hair here, but this is one stunning street wear outfit. She's rocking wide leg flared jeans with a light floral print around the bottom of the leg. The long dark blue sweater looks both comfortable and fashionable, and we love how the white tank underneath makes the gold necklace really pop.

Jennie finishes the look off with heels, a brown belt, oversized sunglasses and a big woven beige tote. Use this look as inspiration, and try mixing up colors and specific accessories to really make it your own. And if brightly tinted hair isn't your thing, you can still take another note from Jennie and go with bold makeup for added color.

Layered Ruffled Dress with Denim Jacket and Western Boots

This is an easy breezy fun look that works well for spring, summer and fall! We love the long ruffled dress in two color tones, and it's complemented well paired with the brown western boots. The denim jacket then adds another layer of dimension that is a bit unexpected but really ties the whole look together.

Jennie completes her outfit with a long fringe necklace, but you can play around with the accessories when adapting this look for your own purposes.

White and Black Polka Dot Dress with Matching Shoes!

Could Jennie's blog even be called A Pocketful of Polka Dots if her outfits didn't feature any polka dots? We're absolutely in love with this fun outfit of Jennie's! The long sleeved polka dress is a great find that's fun for any occasion. This dress would have gone great with a wide variety of shoe colors and patterns, but she took things an unexpected step further by opting for matching polka dot high heels! That said, we also feel like a pair of bright red heels (or ones in another bright color like pink, green or orange) could have a similar effect.

Notice how Jennie didn't let this look just stay black and white polka dots. She adds dimension with a large striped tote bag and an additional splash of color with large orange statement earrings. You can make this look your own by adjusting the specific colors (you can even go with different colored polka dots) and perhaps adding a necklace or bracelet.
